Jump on the Trade Show Train!

It's that time again! Trade show season is in full swing. When I talk to salon owners about the shows coming up in their area, I hear things like "I need to stay and work" or "I can't afford to send someone". Comments like this blow my mind, because if salon owners comprehended the true value of attending just one show, they wouldn't hesitate to send every single member of their staff. The knowledge and growth that is possible as a result of these events can have very real and impactful effects on a business.

There isn't anywhere else that your management and employees will get to experience our industry in such a hands-on way, and getting your team excited to learn is the key to finding success when you get back to work. Regardless of what lotion you carry or what beds you use, there is valuable education to be had at these events. Vendors aren't just discussing their specific products, they include tips and techniques that anyone can benefit from. The truth is, no matter how good or experienced you are, you can always learn something new. Even if you just get one idea, that could be the difference in making this tanning season your best ever.

In addition to filling your mind with strategies and tips for success, trade shows offer an amazing look at what's new. Impressive new sunbeds and technology-packed sunless equipment get people excited. Diversification equipment, add-ons and new retail items trigger curiosity about bringing some flavor to your current lineup. and with so many lotions to explore, its easy to find something you and your team will be passionate about selling.

Even if a local show doesn't feature the brands you carry, get out there and make the most of the experience. Get there early, mingle with manufacturers, then sit back and soak up all the knowledge you can. You might even get lucky and win one of the many prizes that are given away!

I can promise you this: As with many things in life, you will get out of your business what you put into it. Put a little extra in your bag of tricks by enjoying what the industry has to offer!

Happy tanning!
